Abay Square

This place has such notable sites as Republic Palace, Abay Qunanbaiuly monument, Koktobe station, Arman Cinema Theater and Kazakhstan hotel. As of now, the Republic Palace is the largest hall in Almaty. The place is used frequently as a space for public gatherings, ceremonies, concerts, etc. Apart from that, tall building of Kazakhstan hotel is seen from there. The hotel is one of the symbols of the nation. The crown on top of the building symbolizes grain – wheat. Because during the Soviet times so called Virgin lands campaign run across the country to produce more wheat to feed the nation. The monument is dedicated to the famous Kazakh poet, writer, composer Abay. He is our Shakespeare, Dante. He produced many pieces of fine art literature.
