On the upper road which links Almaty thru Kaskelen (a small town) to Bishkek (capital of Kyrgyzstan) there is a large upland plateau. It is Ush Konyr. The edge of the Ush Konyr Plateau is a favoured spot for paragliding and hang gliding. The Central Asia Open Cap has been held here. The location is considered to be unique among all of the former Soviet countries because the circulation of the mountain breeze in this area is said to have special property. That is why in the XX century in Soviet Union and today’s time the plateau is popular with paragliders and hang gliders. Moreover, hot air balloon can be done here depending on weather conditions.
The distance is around 50 km from Almaty. The quality of the road is good and the drive is comfortable. It is important to note that the activity is held all year round. Rain and wind seem to be the only obstacles.
